Well-appointed historic home on Main St. in Amador & close to Calaveras County

Situated in historic Amador County (bordering Calaveras County), renown for gold mining and rich, fertile soil that grows fantastic wine grapes, you will be just minutes away from some of the best small wineries in California including BellaGrace, TooGood, Scott Harvey, and 1850. Bethany's is in the heart of Jackson, and therefore, all the amazing destinations in Amador and Calaveras Counties. Bethany's is located on North Fork Jackson Creek (just look down out the back windows to see the creek at the base of the house) and walking distance to all the amazing restaurants, antique stores and all the charming shops on Main St. We are one block from Amador County Museum, two blocks from the Pioneer Cemetery, and 1.5 miles from the Kennedy Mine (see below for a larger list of local attractions). I am told the house used to house one of Jackson's many brothels (which were not closed down until the 50s), but it mostly was a boarding house. This charming Folk Victorian house dates to 1906, although the property was first purchased in 1877, and is full of antiques and IG worthy nooks and crannies. Relax in the amazing library, enjoy a meal in the large eat-in kitchen (you get to listen to the creek roaring in the rainy season), or play one of the dozens of games available. No matter what you do, there is plenty of space to enjoy the house and your company. Wifi is available throughout the house, there are Smart TVs in the living room and primary bedroom, and books and puzzles available, so you really have no reason to be bored. We have done a lot of research on the previous owners and there are some interesting stories for sure (there is a notebook full of copies of different articles).

Jackson has so many fun events year-round and being on Main Street means not having to worry about parking and getting to appreciate this small town and all the fun things there are to do. The restaurants are phenomenal, the people are warm and friendly- I just cannot say enough about the town and this house is a little jewel in the middle of it all. Living in Sacramento most of my life, the time I spend at the house, Jackson feels like home. Part of it is because the house and spirits also feel like family.

Is the house really haunted? Much of the area is haunted so it shouldn't be so surprising (although many owners may not be honest about it). For those who do not want to hang out with the spirits or are not sensitive to it, you likely will not notice them. On occasion, you may find things move or hear a stomp or a bang, smell smoke or perfume, but nothing malicious has ever happened so no reason to be afraid. For those interested in communicating with the spirits, we do have a variety of ghost hunting supplies available to use. We have had many paranormal groups come through and all agree the house is haunted but there is nothing malicious here (most of the activity is in the unfinished basement which is not accessible to guests).

This house is not really suitable for people who have mobility issues (the house is not level and the kitchen is in the basement) and is also not ideal for small children and we do not accept pets. We have an attached 2-bedroom basement apartment, which is better suited for those groups if available.

An additional note: Visitors like you, allow us to continue to make improvements to the home and hope to share this beautiful home with so many (you should see our Halloween and Christmas decor)! So, while we love this house, we appreciate that you help us to make it all it is and constantly improving it.
